Claim: Brennan and Booth "missed their moment"

That's what Sweets proposes in the 100th episode... and I like to think that the man is right about a lot of things.

This isn't one of them.

Let's consider that our duo hadn't "missed their moment," so to speak-- that Brennan hadn't gotten in the cab, or Booth had gotten in with her, and they went off into that pre-season 1 night and had sex. (Gasp!)

What then?

It's naive to think they would have fallen in love. Consider this: it's taken them 5 seasons (give or take) to affect one another enough to reach that point of true compatibility. Brennan, especially, has made enormous headway in that she almost completely accepts Booth's faith. This was absolutely NOT the case during season 1.

And pre-season 1? Not a chance!

Would this be enough to keep them apart/ break them up? Most definitely. In fact, I think it's one of the main factors that's kept them apart for so long. (Feel free to disagree!)

Now, back to the sex: They have it and then wake up. So, I ask again: what then?

Brennan, as we know, appreciates (and appreciated) taking care of her urges sans commitment (read: a one night stand of sorts, as they can last for multiple nights. She has people she can call, if you recall that talk she had with Booth in, I believe, that certain episode when she had two boyfriends. Good times.) So why would it have been different with Booth? She hardly knew him!

And likely wouldn't have gotten to know him much further, for they wouldn't have gotten to/ been forced to work together for so any years. (FBI policy, baby!)

So, even if Brennan did begin to see Booth as someone she wanted more than the occasional romp with, their relationship would have faced to many challenges that two people not forced together wouldn't have to deal with, making it easier to simply not.

Cut their losses.

Break it off.

So, yeah. That night could have been a moment, but it certainly wasn't THEIR moment. Despite what might be fun to believe, the stars weren't lined up perfectly for them; they don't do that for Brennan and Booth. They've had to WORK somewhat for their compatibility.

Their true moment has yet to come. (But I think it's coming soon...)
